A brief history of our Funeral HomeIn 1924, John J. Inglesby and his wife Mary established Inglesby & Sons Funeral Home. At that time their home was located on Rogers Avenue in Pennsauken, New Jersey. His firm intention was:"To treat you as if you belonged to our own family." In 1936, Gerald A. Inglesby, one of their five sons who became funeral directors, joined the firm. By 1946 this area of New Jersey was beginning to grow. In order to better serve the families of the area, the decision was made to move to a larger location. They found a lovely location, known as the Strain Estate at Cove and Wyndham Roads. The Estate was noted for it's vineyards and pears, with northern access to the railroad line. At the time, the Pennsauken Police Station and Court House were located across the street. To this day, the Inglesby Funeral Home proudly serves our clients in this wonderful old Victorian home. At the age of 77, in March of 1953, John J. passed away. This was one month after his grandson, John E., was born. Mary passed away in 1962 and Gerald became owner and manager. He and his wife, Ella, raised their five children in the upstairs living quarters. They undertook the renovation of the facilities by adding a second chapel, installing air conditioning, and additional parking spaces. During his life Gerry spent many years involved with local charities. He and Ella devoted a good portion of their lives to the growing of the business and taking care of their clients. After 53 years in the funeral service, Gerry passed away in 1989. Ella passed in July of 1991. John E. Inglesby entered the business in 1972. He received his funeral directors license in 1976 and is the owner and manager. We at Inglesby's are dedicated to our clients. We are also proud of our tradition of serving the families of Pennsauken and the surrounding communities. We have made a firm commitment to treat people with honesty and respect. |
